sterile non-absorbable, braided surgical suture composed of natural silk organic protein called fibroin. This protein is derived from the Bompyx mori species of silkworm, from the Bombycidaeb family. The yarns are processered in order to remove the naturally enclosed sericin gum and waxes and then spun, braided and coated in silicone to provide a smooth surface and greater tensile streng.
CHARACTERISTICS
Silk sutures meet the requirements set by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) for non-absorbable surgical sutures.
RTmED® silk surgical sutures are suitable for use in ophthalmic surgery, orthopedic surgery, and for placing external sutures.
-
Excellent handling properties
-
High tensile strength
-
Highly smooth and flexible
INDICATIONS
Silk Non-absorbable Sutures are indicated for use in general surgery. It is suitable for use in soft tissue and for ligation, general surger including use in ophthalmic procedures, cardiovascular and neurological tissues. As the tensile strength of RTmED® Silk Sutures will be greatly reduced over time, it should not be used when extensive suture support is necessary.
